Government Secondary School Ilorin, Old Boys Association has appealed to the Kwara State Governor Mallam Abdulrahman AbdulRazak to help with perimeter fencing of the school.
The National President GSS Ilorin Old Boys Association, Alhaji Mohammed Toyin Adebayo who made the call at the 2023 Annual General Meeting and Biennial Election of the association held at the GSS Auditorium, Ilorin, Kwara State also called for construction of internal road network of the school
He said “our belief is that a premier school like GSS Ilorin merits being transformed into a Mega institution that the state and the multitudes of its old students would be proud of ”
He noted that the institution has contributed greatly towards shaping their lives and gave them the right trajectory in life.
” One of the landmark achievements is in the improvement brought to bear on the school’s management. On assumption of our tenure we observed that the school management, especially the junior arms, was characteterised by grave indiscipline, especially among staff. In a swift response, the national executive with the support of SUBEB facilitated the transfer of all staff in the Junior Secondary School and replaced them with new staff. The exercise generated lots of controversies as political insinuations were read to this decision by those with ulterior motive. We remained resolute in our resolve and now the positive effect of that exercise is being felt in the academic and moral improvement noticeable in the school for which we are most delighted.
As a follow up to the above, it is worth noting that the national executive now play a very active role in the posting of any principal to the school and this is done by way of organising a screening process to select from the prospective candidates, incidentally Old Boys has been emerging as the school principals for both the Senior and the Junior Secondary school.
He noted that the Junior Secondary students recently won a Presidential debate in a keenly contested national debate competition which enhance the image of the school amongst its peers nationally.
” To improve the academic standard in the school, the outgoing executive in conjunction with the school management instituted Prizes and Award giving ceremony for the students and teachers in the school.
He expressed gratitude to the past executives of the association for their leadership and commitment” They laid the moulding blocks upon which we are building today. To all the sets that have made a positive impact in the development of the school, I say a big thank you to you all.
“It is a well-known fact, that the school has suffered a serious neglect under the successive administrations in the state, if not for the Old Boys, the story of the school would have been worse. All the developmental projects includes but limited to school were facilitated by the various sets of the Old Boys, such development Projects includes but not limited to Renovation of classrooms, Hostels, Laboratories, Provision of Boreholes, Provision of transformers, provision of solar power, street lights, Clinical equipment, Books, furniture, Mattresses, Sporting facilities.
“We thank the present administration for the recent presentation of 500 Mattresses, pillows, Beddings and furniture and we are still hoping that His Excellency, Mallam Abdulrahman AbdulRazak the executive Governor of Kwara state will accelerate his assistance to retaining the glory of the school” he said.
