Akwa United emerged champions of the 2017 Federation Cup after defeating Niger Tornadoes 3-2 on penalties in the final at the Agege Stadium.

The feat earned the cup winners a promised reward of N70 million by the state government when he hosted the team upon their return from Lagos at the Government House.

It’s been four years since then but going by the words of the club chairman, Elder Paul Bassey, “delay is better than denial”.

It would be recalled that Governor Udom also rewarded Akwa United with N65 million for winning the federation cup in 2015 after upstaging favourites, Lobi Stars 2-1 in the final.
