Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Comrade Sunday Adeyemo (aka Sunday Igboho, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi, Boko Haram insurgents, and the ubiquitous Fulani herdsmen and bandits, all have something in common, going by narratives from the Federal Government.
At different times, these individuals and organisations have been accused of promoting (or been accessories to the promotion of) agenda inimical to the corporate existence of Nigeria.
For a government desirous of peace, one would have expected equal treatment for all incendiary and centrifugal forces across the country. But like George Orwell (real name, Eric Arthur Blair) said in his 1945 classic satire “Animal Farm”, ” All animals are equal, but some are more equal than the others”.
It is indeed preposterous and unfathomable that same government that spared no expense in hunting down Mazi Kanu, in faraway Nairobi, Kenya, and Sunday Igboho, in the Republic of Benin, could not trace the location of supposed “bandits”, even when they operate within the shores of Nigeria, and now bold enough to acquire anti-aircraft missile with which it recently shot down military aircraft.
A statement by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Mike Ozekhome, is apposite here. According to him: “The Federal Government appears supersonically efficacious when it comes to arresting and repatriating dissenters and challengers of its morbid nepotic and nationalistic government.
“The same government paradoxically appears abysmally weak and hopelessly helpless when it comes to fighting AK-47-wielding armed bandits, Boko Haram and other deadly insurgents, including ransom-taking kidnappers who are almost kidnapping the very heart and soul of Nigeria daily. The Nigerian nation appears captured by non-state actors.”
Lest I forgot, Sheikh Gumi in a February 2021 interview, alerted Nigerians of the preparedness to acquire anti-aircraft missiles. That such personality still saunters around the country unmolested is unfathomable.
