The Oyo State chapter of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) has condemned the killings and wanton destruction of lives and properties at Igangan in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The Coordinator of Aare Gani Adams-led faction of OPC in the state, Comrade Rotimi Olumo, expressed the group’s dissatisfaction while speaking with newsmen in Ibadan, Oyo State capital at the weekend. He said that he received a distress call by the chairman of OPC in that area in the middle of the night that Fulani herdsmen had taken over Igangan town.

Olumo wondered why the Federal government will be silent and allow herdsmen take laws into their hands.

According to Olumo, Oyo State Government should give the OPC the authority to resist the Fulani herdsmen in Oyo State. “We arrested and handed over Wakili to the police some weeks ago. I can tell you that up till now, three of our members are still in police custody because of Wakili. I can tell you categorically that it’s Wakili boys that is behind several kidnapping and other atrocities been committed in Ibarapaland.”

Comrade Olumo said that he has instructed all his members in Ibarapa to resist any further attack in Ibarapaland.

“We need the support of the state government to equip Amotekun with modern equipment that can tackle the menaces of Fulani herdsmen,” he started.

He also urged members of the public to give useful information to OPC because, “we have all that it takes, both physical and spiritual, to resist Fulani herdsmen in the South-West region of the country.

“The government should not practice nepotism where Fulani are shown to be above and superior to other ethnic groups.
