Yoruba Ko’Ya Leadership and Training Foundation (YKLTF), has partnered with Marcus Garvey Institute for Human Management towards fostering Yoruba unity across the globe.

A statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Amb. Demola Sanyaolu, made available to Rulers’ World in Ibadan on Wednesday, disclosed that the global event which is to take the form of a colloquium is intended to be the first in the series.

The YKLTF said that the colloquium would promote cross-cultural ties among Yoruba people worldwide, leading to youth exchange programmes among the nations.

It said that the colloquium also aimed at the exploration of economic and trade ties to boost the homeland economy of the Yorubas.

The YKLTF said that a wide range of topics on Yoruba traditions, arts and culture amongst other related issues of interest to Yorubas in the homeland would be discussed.

“This effort will unite the Yorubas worldwide in learning, growing and bonding, using Yoruba’s past as well as present for future growth,” it said.

It said that the colloquium would have participants drawn from Brazil, Jamaica, Cuba, the US, Canada and other countries where Yoruba people reside.

Among some of the expected participants are Prof. Alison Moses from Brazil, Dr Julius Garvey from Jamaica and Prof. Wande Abimbola, a US-based Nigerian.

Others are US-based Prof. Toyin Falola, Babalawo Ivanir Dos Santos from Cuba and Dr Mayowa Ogedengbe from the US.

The Marcus Garvey Institute for Human Development was established in honour of the great black nationalist, Marcus Garvey.

The colloquium is scheduled to be held on Saturday, 23 October.
