Former NBA Chairman – Okey Wali Regains Freedom

The former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr Okey Wali, has regained his freedom from his abductors. He was released yesterday evening after spending 14 days in the den of kidnappers.

The news was broken by the current president of the association, Mr Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau SAN, who confirmed the release after speaking to Mr Wali. He was kidnapped on April 17, 2023 following a violent attack on his convoy along East-West Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State which led to the lost of one of his security details.

This is not Wali’s first experience with kidnappers, as he was kidnapped on October 11, 2014 and released on October 24, having spent 13 days in the den of his abductors.

In a press statement confirming his release and signed by Maikyau says: “To the glory of God Almighty, I am pleased to announce the release and return of Mr Okey Wali SAN return to his family. I personally spoke with him and he is in good spirits”.

He reiterated his call on the Federal government to live up to its constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of all Nigerians in all ramifications. “Every life is valuable and must be treated with honour and dignity.”
