The demise of the first African coach to win a world cup trophy, Sebastian Imasuen Broadrick has been announced.
In a telephone conversation with Edo FA chairman Fred Newton Erhunmwunse this morning, the eldest daughter of the late former Nigeria coach, Adesuwa inform the FA chairman that her father died in the early hours of today, Wednesday January 3rd 2023 in Benin city.
The FA boss said it is sad to lose such a personality this year.
” I received a telephone call this morning from Mrs Adesuwa, the eldest daughter of our great coach that the father has passed on, am in shock, this is too early for the year,l he was a great personality, may his soul rest in Peace.
” I have visited him before now, but on our part the Edo FA board members shall pay a condolence visit to the family shortly, this is big loss to the Football family in Nigeria, Fred stated.
The late football tactician who has been sick for some time now became the first Nigerian and African coach to win a world cup trophy following his triumph with his school boys in 1985, in China when the the Baby Eaglets of Nigeria defeated the then west Germany 2-0 to win the inuagural FIFA Kodak world cup for under 16
Some of his troops that achieved the feat include Captain Nduka Ugbade, victor igbinoba, Kingsley Aikhiobare, Baldwin Bazuaye, Imama Amakapabo, Bella momoh, Lucky Agbosevbafe etc.
Late sabastin Broadrick who has been bedridden for some time now with stroke and diabetes according to the son, was a great midfielder as he represented Nigeria with then Green Eagles at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico. He will be remembered for by Bendel Insurance fans worldwide for his well taken free kick that gave Bendel Insurance a 3-2 win over Mighty jets of Jos in Ibadan to win the 1972 challenge cup.
