Fire guts shops at Ladipo Market, Lagos

A storey building containing a number of shops, at Ladipo market, in the Mushin area of Lagos State, was on Wednesday engulfed by fire.

The Director-General of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the inferno on Wednesday.

The LASEMA boss stated that the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, adding that efforts were on to put out the inferno.

Oke-Osanyintolu, who noted that the Agency received distress calls on the incident around 6 am on Wednesday, further noted that no casualties have been recorded.

He said, “The Agency received distress calls around 6 am and activated its response plan. On arrival, the LRT discovered a storey building engulfed in flames.

“The cause of the fire could not be ascertained now and no casualties have been recorded.

“Joint responders comprising the Agency and its fire service, LASG Fire service are on the ground, making efforts to put the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to surrounding buildings. The operation is ongoing and further updates will follow,” the LASEMA boss stated.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says shops containing car accessories worth millions of naira have been gutted by fire at Ladipo Market, Lagos.

Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, NEMA Acting Zonal Coordinator, South-West Zonal Office, told newsmen that the fire started about 4 a.m on Wednesday.

According to Farinloye, the shops contained vehicle air conditioners, engine oil, paints, and other car accessories.

He said that firefighters had a hectic time putting out the fire because most of the accessories were inflammable.

He, however, noted that no one was trapped or died in the incident.
