Ex-River military administrator dies

A former military administrator of Rivers State, Brig. Gen. Anthony Ukpo has died, aged 74.

According to a family source, Ukpo died in his private hospital, Asi Ukpo Calabar Hospital in the early hour of Monday, 6 September, 2021 after an undisclosed brief illness.

Born July 16, 1947, the late General was Minister of Information and Culture, and then the military administrator of Rivers State, from August 1986 until July 1988 during the military administration of General Ibrahim Babangida.

Ukpo was born in Okpoma, Yala, in Northern Cross River State.

He joined the Nigerian Army and rose through the rank to become a Brigadier General before his retirement.
