administration of booster dose, FG approves COVID-19 booster shots

The Ogun State Government is set to commence the administration of COVID-19 booster dose on residents who have been vaccinated with the first and second jabs, as part of effort to contain the spread of that virus and curb the fourth wave of the pandemic.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, disclosed this during an advocacy and awareness visit to the Redemption Camp Headquarters of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Mowe, that the administration of the booster dose was recently approved by the federal government to those who have been fully vaccinated.

She explained that the development became necessary to guard against the rising number of cases with the emergence of the Omicron variant.

Coker said that the Pfizer brand of the COVID-19 vaccine is available for a booster dose.

The health commissioner added that the state is in the custody of enough vaccines that would cater for all residents.

Coker who said that the State has enough vaccines to cater for all residents hinted that the Pfizer brand of vaccine had been made available specifically for booster dose, assuring that other brands, such as the Moderna and AstraZeneca are also available, safe and effective.

She stated that the visit was part of awareness creation to ramp up vaccination across the State, expressing optimism in the support of the Church to ensure the overall success of the campaign.

The commissioner charged residents to continue adhering to the non-pharmacological interventions and measures to prevent the spread of the virus such as periodic hand washing, social distancing, use of face mask and hand sanitiser, urging them to also get vaccinated, as well as encourage their loved ones to do same.

The Assistant Coordinator, Medicals, 2021 Holy Ghost Congress, Dr Olagoke Ale appreciated the present administration in its efforts at ensuring the safety and wellbeing of residents, promising to incorporate the State vaccination teams into the existing health structure at the convention ground.
