Bishop Oyedepo’s nincompoop vibe on COVID-19

Winners’ Chapel sack pastors, Oyedepo COVID-19 vibe

That the Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel), Bishop David Oyedepo, is a controversial clergyman is stating the obvious.

For instance, at the onset of the pandemic in 2020, he refused to comply with the directive by the government to suspend gatherings including congregational, not until he was prevailed upon.

Aside from this, he has ventilated a number of opinions on political issues considered to be toxic. Only recently, at a sermon during the church’s 40th-anniversary service held at the church cathedral in Ota, Ogun State, the Bishop reportedly said: “Come to me for a lasting solution (to COVID-19) at no cost”. He further advised members of his church against taking the COVID-19 vaccines, which he described as the ” deadly thing”.

According to the clergy, “Let me warn you against this deadly thing circulated around the country because it has not been duly tested. An elder of this church, who works with the World Health Organisation (WHO), confirmed this, thanking me for always speaking the truth about the authenticity of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“What an insult! What an assault! Nobody has the right to enforce vaccination on you, and nobody can terminate your employment because you refuse to take the vaccine, my God will show up (for you).

“Did I tell anyone I am sick? Don’t let anyone harass you into doing what you don’t want to do.

“They wanted Africa dead. I heard them say it. When we didn’t die as they proposed, they brought out this vaccination scheme. You need to hear their proclamation that Africa will lack spaces to bury corpses. But, today the reverse is the case. Africa has the least casualty among all the other continents of the world.”

Well, Uncensored is of the view that taking -or refusal to take – the vaccine is (and should remain) a personal decision. The clergyman should have visited any of the isolation centres to prove to Nigerians he could handle the deadly virus rather than engage in showmanship.
