Bayelsa Governor commends Aisha Falode, Calls for more women football sponsorship

The Governor of Bayelsa state, Douye Diri has expressed his delight with the level of development of the women’s game in Nigeria, praising the Nigeria Women Football League, led by Aisha Falode for raising the standard of the women league.

Speaking at the 2022 Annual General Meeting and Congress of the Nigeria Women Football League in Yenagoa over the weekend, Governor Diri not only commended the organizers, he also canvassed for more corporate sector participation in the development of the game in the country.

“I am very happy with the speed and rate of development of female football in Nigeria. It means that Aisha and your team, you are doing greatly well. We would like to invite more corporate entities to come in to the sponsorship of both the male and female football in Nigeria. We have a lot of international oil companies, we like you to join hands with us”, the Governor appealed.

“I will continue to show my interest in sports development, and in particular football development in the state, Governor Diri, himself a one time commissioner of sports in Bayelsa state, also stressed while affirming his unalloyed suport for sports in the state.

The Chairperson, Nigeria Women Football League board, Aisha Falode seized the occasion to give a report on the activities of the NWFL particularly the recently concluded league season.

“The congress of the NWFL affords the opportunity for us to review the activities of the outgoing season as we set the agenda for the upcoming season. The 2021/2022 season recorded many first and successes in many areas. Our years of our deliberate and intentional re-branding of our 3 leagues, the seminars we had for our teams media officers in Lagos and the club managers as well, crystalized to the different brand innovations and activations through out the season. They yielded positive results and impacts”, Aisha Falode, a board member of the Nigeria Football Federation disclosed while reserving some praises for the Goverment of Bayelsa state, the owners of the reigning Nigeria Women Football League champions, Bayelsa Queens.

“The position that Bayelsa state is occupying in Nigerian sports now is not a fluke. That is because they have a Governor who is investing in sports, who is investing in Bayelsan youths and also someone who is interested in getting results. He is a Governor that understands the power of competition and the power of winning, and the power of preparing for competing and winning successfully”, Aisha revealed emphatically.

The 2022/2023 women league season has now been scheduled to commence in September.
