Bandits kill 13 policemen, two residents, injure six in Zamfara

Bandits, on Sunday, ambushed and killed thirteen special mobile police officers, two residents, while six people were seriously wounded in the Korar-mota village of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to Shehu, an indigene of the area, the incident happened at Korar-mota village.

“The police officers were on patrol when the armed bandits ambushed them and opened fire killing 13 mobile policemen, while two people were killed and six seriously wounded,” he said.

According to him, the bodies of the deceased policemen and civilians were taken to Gusau, including the six wounded residents of the area.

The police spokesman, SP Mohammed Shehu, confirmed the unfortunate incident.

According to him, “The command has launched a manhunt against armed bandits that ambushed Police operatives in Kurar Mota village of Bungudu LGA.

“The attack occurred on Sunday at about 1230hrs when Police Mobile operatives deployed at Kurar Mota village in Bungudu LGA were responding to a distress call with regards to an attempt by bandits to attack some nearby communities.

“The personnel who ran into the ambush exhibited resilience and gallantry by engaging the hoodlums, an effort that deterred the bandits from attacking the communities.

“Unfortunately, 13 personnel paid the supreme price. However, the bandits on their part suffered heavy casualties.

“A special Anti-Banditry Operations is currently ongoing with a view to tracking down the assailants.”

The Commissioner of Police, Hussaini Rabiu, while visiting the injured policemen at the hospital reaffirmed that today’s unfortunate incident will not discourage the officers and men of the command from discharging their mandate of protecting the lives and properties of the citizens.

He, therefore, called on every law-abiding citizen to join hands with the security agencies to successfully end the menace.
