Delta state have won the first gold medal of the National Sports Festival, Asaba 2022.
The host state began the festival with a Gold medal, a signal that they are ready to defend the title won in Edo State as defending champions on their home soil.
Team Delta Cyclists beat three other states, Oyo, Plateau and Lagos to emerge 1st place winners in the 12km mixed relay decided on Igbuzor road earlier today.
Edo and Rivers State were disqualified over their inability to present the minimum three female cyclists required for the event. Meanwhile, the official opening ceremony of the festival will hold at the Stephen Keshi Stadium later today.
The Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Sports, Sam Sodje confirmed the development to rulers world magazine.
“Yes I am just briefing my Governor on the development. We are hosting to win, we are going to leave no stone unturned in achieving that, we have just started the right way, expect more and start getting used to it”, the ex-international football star for Nigeria further affirmed.
