A chiefftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Alhaji Chief Adebisi Olopoeyan has enjoined a member of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin to sheath his sword and accord due respect to the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja.who he said deserves respect as a national leader and couple with the various positions he has held.
Chief Olopoeyan stated this while answering questions from a journalist in a video that had gone viral on social media wherein he addressed the recent imbroglio between Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja and Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin who is representing Ibadan North East/South East federal constituency.
Olopoeyan described the conflict as needless and avoidable, emphasizing the importance of according respect to leadership of the party by political office holders.
He pointed out that insulting Arapaja is tantamount to insulting the PDP as a whole, urging Agboworin to remain calm and not respond to perceived insults from Arapaja
Olopoeyan further stressed that such responses only serve to undermine respect for Arapaja, Governor Seyi Makinde, and the PDP as a party.
Highlighting Arapaja’s extensive political experience and contributions, Olopoeyan insisted that Agboworin should tread softly and show respect for someone who has held numerous significant positions over the years as a former council chairman, member Federal House of Representatives, former Deputy Governor, former Ambassador to two foreign countries, former Vice Chairman South West, PDP and now Deputy Narional Chairman (South) of the PDP.
. Olopoeyan said it is highly imperative for political leaders to set a good example for the younger generations by maintaining decorum, even in the face of any slight provocation.
Olopoeyan made clarification that while he is not personally close to Arapaja, he recognizes the importance of respecting elders and maintaining unity within the party.
He also mentioned his past support for Agboworin during the electioneering campaign when he rendered assistance for him to secure the party’s ticket and eventually won the election without collecting any money from him.
The video underscores the necessity for political leaders to act with maturity and respect, setting a standard for the future politicians.
