Edo Queens are WAFU Champions, Eyes CAF

Edo Queens Friday continued with their ruthless winning streak at the WAFU-B Women’s Championship in Cote d’Ivoire.
They beat Ainonvi FC of Benin Republic with a 3-0 win to clinch the title in their very first competition outside Nigeria. Edo Queens, with victory have booked their place in the $400,000 first prize CAF Women’s Champions League.
Suliat Abideen opened the scoring for Edo Queens, while Emem Essien completed the rout of the Benin Republic team with a double.
Edo Queens won all their games in the WAFU B qualifiers and have established themselves as a team to watch at the Women Champions League next year.
In their first game Edo Queens thrashed AS Garde of Niger Republic with a 5-0 win, they followed up with a 3-0 humbling of highly rated Hasaacas Ladies of Ghana.
They followed up with a 1-0 win over Burkina Faso’s Omni Etincelle to set up a semi-final clash with Inter Abidjan Ladies, they sailed through to the final with a 2-1 against the host club.
“The girls have shown incredible resilience and skill throughout this journey. Their qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League is a testament to their hard work and determination,” said coach Moses Aduku.

Bayelsa Queens were the last team to represent Nigeria at the CAF Champions League for women and they won a Bronze medal two years ago.
