A socio-political group, Ogo-Oluwa Youth Alliance (OYA) have expressed their displeasure over what they called the perennial marginalization of the Ogo Oluwa local government area in choosing representative for the Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere federal constituency.

The group expressed their displeasure in a release issued by the Youth Coordinator of the group, Hon. Ayoola Peter and counter signed by Comrade Adeniyi Saheed, Comrade Oladayo Adewumi, Comrade Bello Muideen and Comrade Popoola Olaide respectively and made available to journalists, calling on political heavyweights in the said federal constituency to ensure that this anomaly is corrected by allowing the next representative to emerge from Ogo Oluwa local government area.

The group said that the political domination of Surulere local government in flagrant negligence of rotation which is supposed to be between Ogo Oluwa and Surulere is no longer acceptable, noting that it has become necessary for them to speak up with the 2023 general elections some few months away.

According to the group, “Surulere local government since 1993 has continued to marginalize Ogo Oluwa in the production of federal House of Representatives member which is supposed to be rotated between the two local governments. This is affecting location of critical infrastructures from the federal government.

We want to appeal to well meaning indigenes and politicians in these two local governments to throw their considerable political weight behind Ogo Oluwa and support candidate from there to emerge the House of Representatives member for the constituency in the 2023 general elections.

Ordinarily, there should be no question as to which local government area between Ogo Oluwa and Surulere should be nominated to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives in 2023. But we hear that many of the politicians including the incumbent, Hon. Dokun Odebunmi (BUNVIC) who is from Surulere local government and who has done three terms, is also aspiring to return and for Surulere to continue.

For six terms running from the available records, members that have been representing the Ogo Oluwa/Surulere federal constituency are from Surulere local government and they are as follows: 1999-2003, Hon. Banji Folaranmi; 2003 – 2011, Senator Ayo Adeseun and 2011- 2023, Hon. Dokun Odebunmi. Ogo Oluwa local government has not been allowed to produce representative at all. This is unfair and it must be stopped.” The group lamented.
